Best of 2015
As we begin a new year, I thought it would be appropriate to mention a few things that have made my life in the operating room better:
The daVinci Xi – The Xi is the latest version of Intuitive Surgical’s robotic surgical system. Just when you thought things couldn’t get better, I now have even better vision, range of motion, flexibility, and control.
ProPep Real-time Nerve Monitoring – This system allows me to map out the pelvic nerves that are in part responsible for erectile and urinary function. The robotic surgical system’s incredible vision allows me to see most of the nerves. However, using the ProPep system’s gentle electrical stimulation, I am able “to see” other nerves that are hidden below the tissue.
LiquiBand Flex – There are many skin glues on the market. This is my favorite for closing skin incisions because of the extreme ease of application and predictable results. After all, it’s the only part of the surgery that my patients see.
I have seen many revolutionary advances that have blown me away. However, we often take for granted the small evolutionary advances that can make such a difference in our day-to-day routines.
