Dr. Scott Miller performs state’s first robotic kidney removal
Atlanta urologist, LapaRobotics specialist completes successful procedure with cutting edge da Vinci Xi surgical system
Dr. Scott Miller recently performed Georgia’s first robotic kidney removal using Intuitive Surgical’s da Vinci Xi surgical system. The da Vinci Xi system is an advanced robotic-assisted device that allows surgeons to perform minimally invasive operations with greater visibility, dexterity, and precision.
Dr. Miller was the first urologic laparoscopist in the state of Georgia, and he actively develops new surgical techniques and shares his methods and results with surgeons around the world. Dr. Miller is dedicated to advancing the practice’s position as a national leader in innovative medical technologies.
Dr. Miller praised the da Vinci Xi system for its groundbreaking surgical capabilities. “The enhanced visibility and access that the system allows is key in reducing trauma to the surgical area and overall patient recovery time,” said Dr. Miller. “This technology will vastly improve the way in which complex surgeries of this type are performed.”
The da Vinci Xi uses robotic, computer, and optical technologies for surgeons to perform complex procedures through small incisions as an alternative to both traditional open surgery and conventional laparoscopy. Intuitive Surgical designed the new system with the goal of further advancing the technology used in minimally invasive surgery for complex diseases and conditions in gynecology, urology, thoracic, cardiac, and general surgery. The system provides many patient benefits including minimal scarring and pain, lower blood loss, and shorter hospital stays.
Dr. Miller specializes exclusively in laparoscopic and robotic urologic surgery. He performs approximately 300 procedures of this type annually. His most recent development is LapaRobotic Surgery™, a technique that involves the melding of two separate but related surgical techniques — laparoscopic surgery and robotic surgery.
